2021 End of Year Awards Night and Christmas Celebration

On December 6th, our Members met at the Folklore Cafe in Port Adelaide for presentation of awards to Members who have entered images in Competitions throughout 2021, in spite of the challenging times that we have endured. We managed to have enough face to face meetings to allow Prints to be judged on more than half the Competition months, so were able to award the Prints category this year.

59 Members received awards acknowledging all their achievements over the year, including Photograph of the Year 2021 and Photographer of the Year 2021. The President's Award was given to David Sandison in recognition of his fantastic efforts over 5 years as the Club Treasurer. Very well deserved award and a popular choice.

Our major trophies were awarded on this night, being the Dianne Davies Memorial Trophy for Nature, Landscape/Seascape Trophy and Our Port Adelaide Trophy.

Following a very social evening with a beautiful supper and plenty of drinks and congratulations, Members departed for the year until we reconvene in 2022.

President's Report 2021

This has been my second year as the President of our Club. I think it’s safe to say it’s been another interesting year, mainly due to the restrictions placed upon the Club by Covid 19.  The start of this year was marked by the continuation of Zoom meetings for Competitions and Committee meetings. However, we did manage to hold 7 face to face competition meeting too. The Committee has worked very hard this year to try and find ways to engage Club members online and since restrictions eased in person.

Although due to COVID we have change the way we conducted some our Club business, we have 51 club members with 5 of them being new.

The following outlines some of our Club activities over the last 12 months:

This year we had a some very popular Club Meetings including:

·       David Archdall – Large Format Vintage Camera presentation

·       David Sandison – Light painting

·       David Sandison - Fun Photography

·       Colin Pearce - Quiz Night via Zoom

We had 2 weekends away this year: one to the Southern Flinders Rangers, around Laura and another         to Lake Bonney-Barmera. The feedback from both of these weekends was excellent.  I hope next            year we can continue with multiple weekends away with friends.

Apart from weekends away the Club has had several outings including:

·       Walk around the Port

·       Visit to Angaston

·       Light painting

·       Photo walk around Semaphore

·       As a Club we attended Mawson Lakes exhibition.

Originally inspired by Beryl Hopcroft and organised by David Archdall our “End of Month” photographic get togethers proved to be popular again this year.

This year David Archdall has continued with our weekly FOTO FRIDAY which runs all calendar year, and we have had some great photographs. and many comments.

Our Snapathon (held in March this year) is always fun and as always, we had many entries. Thank you to David for a great job.

On social media, our public Facebook page is still very popular and I think that page is a great way to attract new members. Our website also presents opportunities to publicise the Club.

David Archdall has done a fantastic job with our Newsletters with 12 being sent out this year.

Regarding our Club's competitions, as you know the Club had had to organise our monthly competitions both via Zoom and in person, which has been very challenging for both our competition secretaries. This year saw 7 face to face competitions. As you know we changed from having 6 entries to 4 per person this year. Our monthly competition entries decreased accordingly from last year to 653 this year, which is a huge effort from members, our competition secretaries and judges who have all leaned to work with Zoom. Thanks to Joy for organising the judges.

The Committee has met regularly this year via Zoom to keep the Club running smoothly, both formally and informally for discussions on particular subjects. I am very grateful to our committee members for their work this year. A huge thank you to:

Joy as VP

Geraldine as Secretary

Wayne and Colin as Comp Secretaries

David Sandison as Treasurer

David A for all his work on newsletters and Foto Friday

Tony and Jack for their help generally.

I would especially like to thank David Sandison for his hard work as Treasurer over the last 5 years. He has done an amazing job and we were lucky to have him in that role

I’d like to close by thanking those who help the Club in many ways, both our members and our committee. This is a Club of friends where we can share ideas, our passion of photography and time together.

Dr Kim Petersen President, 16th November 2021
